Thursday Lectionary Study

at 10:00 a.m. continues via ZOOM. If you would like an invitation, please let Denise know and she will see that you are included! We'd love to see you! denisemiller@sthuberts.net

Dear Parish Family,

On behalf of the Church, I invite you, 'to the observance of a holy Lent.'  These words from The Ash Wednesday service offer one of the strangest invitations you may receive during this oddest of seasons!  But think about it.  We are then invited to keep Lent holy, ' by self-examination and repentance; by prayer, fasting and self-denial, and by reading and meditating on God's holy word.'  I hope you accept the invitation.

Lent is a time of preparation for the glory of Easter's promise of resurrection.  Taking stock, getting one's house in order, pondering how we can draw closer to God, all point the way towards keeping a holy Lent.  Joining in our study of Paul's letter to the Philippians, attending zoom coffee hour, zoom lectionary and weekly worship, point to the gift of community.  It's a gift that while we are somewhat isolated in this time of pandemic, that we enjoy the company of a blessed community of the faithful to make our Lenten journey.

May you be sure of this invitation to a holy Lent, and may you accept it!

Faithfully,

Dan

The Episcopal Church is asking...

Every year St. Hubert's, along with every other Episcopal church in the USA and beyond complete the Parochial Report. The Report deals with 1) Membership, Attendance and Services as well as 2) Stewardship and Financial Information. Generally each of those two sections is comprised of one page of tightly packed blanks to be filled in. This year a page was added to each section to help The Episcopal Church understand how the pandemic has affected us.

Also added were three narrative questions for Vestry members to add their thoughts. How would you answer the questions if you were a current Vestry member?

1. What were the primary opportunities, innovations and challenges in conducting worship during the pandemic? What did you learn?

2. What are the primary opportunities and challenges your church is facing as it plans for the future?

3. What three things have changed the most in how the church conducts its ministry?

St. Hubert's Building Continues to be Closed

Although Governor DeWine  has opened the State of Ohio for businesses, the Diocese of Ohio continues to recommend that "in-building staffing be minimal and on a drop-in basis as necessary to maintain essential operations."  Therefore we at St. Hubert's continue to work remotely.  We are in the office only to collect mail and to keep the operations of the church in order.  Voicemail is checked each day, and email works too.  Worship and all gatherings continue to be cancelled or postponed with your health in mind.

 Deacon's Dismissal

(Musings from The Rev. Josh Butler)

I’ve driven automobiles for nearly sixty years. I’m getting good at shifting gears, using my turn signals, and planning my route. Sometimes though, plans change. I’d driven my mother-in-law to the doctor’s. For the trip home, I proposed a shortcut but mom had other ideas. She said, “Go right at the light.” I used my turn signal. “Down the hill.” Down we went. “Turn left and slow down.” I wasn’t speeding but I obeyed. My passenger was happy to look around that neighborhood. It was the neighborhood where she had grown up. We took our time getting home.

 FLOWER FUND

Thanks to all who have made contributions to The Flower Fund.  We have been acknowledging our loved ones, honored or remembered, weekly by listing then in this email. We also acknowledge them in the bulletin for worship online and in-person worship gatherings on the lawn. In the absence of an altar, flowers are being sent to parishioners who are shut in or alone, are celebrating a momentous occasion, or in recognition of a service they may have bestowed upon St. Hubert's or others in the community.

Stewardship Gifts

As our stewardship season progresses, many thanks to 81 who have offered to date, $181,052 for the mission and ministry of St. Hubert's Church in 2021!  Your generosity is integral to our financial health.   If you have not yet offered a gift, please do so, for we need all to be included.  Financial stewardship is one of the oldest of spiritual practices!

ONLINE GIVING

St. Hubert's now offers online giving through its website at  www.sthuberts.net\giving_new. (Please note the underscore  between giving _ new.) The "Give to St. Hubert's" link on this page will take you  to a secure site where you can make a pledge payment, flower donation, Dears Society donation, or a general offering using your debit/credit card, or directly from your bank.

Lenten Book Discussion - February 23, March 9 and 23 via Zoom.

We look at Paul's letter to the Church at Philippi for our Lenten book discussion this year.  Though written by Paul while imprisoned, the book is infused with the mandate to rejoice...during this time of pandemic, this book is so fitting.  Though isolated, we also rejoice as we look forward to regathering

The book we are using, Because of this I Rejoice, is available on Amazon.  We will hold the first of three zoom classes on Tuesday, February 24th from 7-8 p.m.  We will focus on Philippians 1:1-11 and Philippians 1:12-26. (Lessons for Week One and Two, pp. 11-54).   Come even if you don't have the book!

If you plan to attend please let us know via email so we can send you a zoom invitation (denisemiller@sthuberts.net).  Other dates for meetings are Tuesday, March 9 and 23rd.

Zoom discussion dates will be Tuesdays, February 23, March 9 and 23, from 7 to 8 p.m. To sign up for the class, click the link.
